Object Interactions
To interact with objects in the scene, RIM-Nat offers several methods. You can select an object directly from the scene tree or click on it in the 3D view.
Selecting Objects
- Selection in the scene tree: Use the scene tree to quickly locate and select an object in a hierarchical structure. This is especially useful in complex scenes where many objects overlap or are positioned close to each other.
- Selection in the 3D view: Click directly on the object in the 3D view to select it. This method is intuitive and allows for direct interaction with the visual elements.
If you have just used an editing tool, you can re-enable the selection tool by clicking on this button:
Fixed Objects
Certain objects in the scene are added from the Portal and are considered Base Layers. These are fixed objects, meaning they cannot be moved, resized, or modified.
Fixed objects are particularly useful for reference data, such as 3D scans, where data integrity needs to be preserved. However, you can control their visibility and customize their display.
Example
Point clouds from a topographic survey are typically base layers: their position in space should not be modifiable by the user. The user cannot move, scale, or rotate this object, but is free to adjust (for themselves only) the point cloud rendering settings.
Editable Objects
Objects created by the user are fully editable. Once selected, you can manipulate them using the tools available in the toolbar. This is typically the case for Measurements and Annotations.
Manipulation Tools
After selecting an object, either from the sidebar or the 3D scene, the available manipulation tools will be displayed and activated in the top toolbar.
Note: The availability of certain tools depends on the type of object selected and the specific context of the scene. For example, some objects may not be eligible for certain transformations depending on their nature or use in the project.
Move: Allows you to move the object within the scene.
Scale: Allows you to resize the object.
Rotate: Allows you to rotate the object.
Delete: Allows you to delete the object from the scene.
