Point Cloud (pointcloud)
RIM-Nat supports the integration of point clouds into 3D scenes, enabling the visualization and manipulation of massive datasets often derived from laser surveys (LiDAR) or photogrammetric captures. Point cloud files can contain various types of data such as coordinates, color, and normals, allowing for detailed and precise visualizations of captured environments.
Supported Formats for Point Clouds
LAS/LAZ Format
The LAS format is an open standard commonly used for storing point cloud data acquired through LiDAR. RIM-Nat also supports the LAZ variant, which is the compressed version of the LAS format.
File Structure:
- LAS and LAZ files contain XYZ coordinates for each point along with additional information, such as intensities, classifications, and colors, depending on the data requirements.
- For large datasets, the LAZ format is recommended due to its compression, reducing data size without compromising quality.
File Constraints:
- The maximum file size is determined by the user’s subscription level.
- File Naming: as with other 3D files, avoid spaces and special characters in the file names.
⚠️
RIM-Nat supports version 1.2 of the LAS/LAZ format. Versions 1.3 and above are not supported.
ℹ️
Recommended Usage: LAS/LAZ formats are particularly suitable for LiDAR surveys or laser scans.
