BIM Models (Building Information Modeling)

BIM Models (Building Information Modeling)

RIM-Nat supports the import of BIM models in the IFC format, enabling the integration of architectural and engineering 3D models into scenes. This format facilitates the analysis, visualization, and management of BIM data for complex construction and infrastructure projects.

Supported Formats for BIM Models

IFC Format (Industry Foundation Classes)

The IFC format is an open standard used for storing and exchanging BIM data across different modeling software. RIM-Nat currently supports version IFC2x3 of this format, which is widely used in the construction industry and allows high interoperability between BIM tools.

  • File Structure:

    • IFC files can be imported directly or compressed into a ZIP file.
    • When using a ZIP file, it should contain only the IFC file and must not be password-protected.
  • File Constraints:

    • Version: Only IFC2x3 is supported. Newer versions (IFC4 and above) are not supported.
    • File Naming: As with other formats, avoid spaces and special characters in the names of IFC and ZIP files.
ℹ️
Recommended Usage: The IFC format is ideal for BIM projects requiring the integration of detailed 3D models and associated data, allowing comprehensive analysis of buildings and infrastructure within RIM-Nat.
