Obtain Capabilities
To access the features and projects available on RIM-Nat, creating an account alone is not enough: you must also obtain access rights, or permissions. Several options are available to acquire these permissions for accessing various portals and shared projects on the platform.
Obtaining Permissions on RIM-Nat
Once your RIM-Nat account is created, you won’t automatically have access to any specific portal or project. Access is determined by permissions granted to you in one of two ways:
Direct addition by an administrator:
- A portal administrator, such as a manager of an organization’s portal, can manually add you to their portal and assign the necessary rights.
- In this case, permissions are granted on a nominative basis: the administrator knows your identity on the platform and directly assigns you access rights.
- This method is common for internal teams or collaborators who are known in advance.
Using a share link:
- A share link, also known as an invitation token, allows a user with the necessary permissions to create a shareable link or code. This link conveys the permissions defined by the person who created it, such as access to a project or data set.
- Anyone with a RIM-Nat account can use this link or code to gain the associated permissions.
- This process is similar to share links on platforms like Google Drive, Discord, or Teams, where the link grants access without requiring a nominative invitation.
⚠️
Important: In all cases, you must have a RIM-Nat account to use a share link or to be manually added to a portal.
Using a Share Link
A share link is a flexible and efficient way to grant permissions, particularly useful in cases where the identities of the end-users are not known in advance. Here’s how to use a share link:
- Creating and sharing the link:
- An authorized person (for example, a user with project access and the ability to create invitations) generates a share link or code.
- This link can be configured with specific limitations:
- Number of uses: The maximum number of times the link can be used, thus limiting the number of people who can benefit from it.
- Expiration date: A date after which the link becomes invalid, ensuring time-controlled access.
- The creator of the link shares the code or link with the intended users.
ℹ️
A share link may include specific restrictions, such as a limited number of uses or an expiration date. Be sure to use the link before its expiration or before it reaches the usage limit.
- Using the share link:
- Log in to your RIM-Nat account (or create an account if you don’t have one yet).
- Access the dashboard and navigate to the Share Codes or Add Project by Code section.
- Enter the share code or click on the provided direct link.
- Once validated, the permissions associated with the share link will be granted and appear in your account.
